LG webOS

IPTV player for LG webOS, installed from the Content Store

Smart TV Player is published in the LG Content Store, so on a webOS set you install it with the Magic Remote in under a minute. No developer mode, no sideloading and nothing to re-enable every few days.

Installing on an LG webOS TV

Everything happens on the TV itself. You need your set connected to the internet and signed in to an LG account.

1. Open the LG Content Store

Press Home on the Magic Remote and select LG Content Store from the launcher bar, then open the Apps tab.

2. Search for Smart TV Player

Use the search icon and type Smart TV Player. Point-and-click with the Magic Remote makes this quicker than the D-pad.

3. Press Install

webOS downloads and installs it. Because the app comes from LG's own store there is no developer mode to switch on — which also means nothing expires after a few days, unlike apps installed through LG's developer tools.

4. Activate with the on-screen QR code

Open the app. It shows a QR code and a short pairing code. Scan it with your phone, make the one-time payment there, and the licence reaches the TV in seconds.

5. Add your own playlist

Pick M3U playlist and paste your provider's URL, or Xtream Codes and enter the server address, username and password.

Which LG TVs are supported

Smart TV Player targets webOS 4.0 and newer, which covers LG smart TVs from roughly 2018 onwards:

  • LG OLED, QNED, NanoCell and UHD ranges from 2018 onwards
  • webOS 4.0 through to the current webOS versions
  • LG smart monitors running webOS with the Content Store
  • Very old 2014 to 2017 webOS 1.x to 3.x sets are not supported

Why the developer-mode route is worth avoiding

Most webOS IPTV guides tell you to enable Developer Mode and push an app with the LG Developer tools. That works, but LG expires developer sessions after a few days, so the app stops opening until you re-authorise it from a computer.

A Content Store install has none of that. It updates itself, it survives a factory reset, and nothing needs renewing.

What you get

A single payment licenses one television permanently.

  • Live TV with groups, favourites and a recently watched list
  • Films and series from the VOD sections your source provides, with resume
  • EPG programme guide from your provider's XMLTV or Xtream data
  • Subtitles with size and position control
  • Parental control with a PIN
  • Multiscreen viewing

What is not included

There are no channels, films, series or playlists in this app, and no trial content. It is empty until you add your own source.

You bring credentials for a service you already pay for and are legally entitled to use.

LG troubleshooting

The app is not in the Content Store. Check the TV's country setting and update webOS under Settings → General → About This TV → Software Update.

The app is slow to open. webOS keeps recently used apps in memory. Close the others from the launcher bar, or power-cycle the TV at the wall rather than using standby.

Channels buffer. Test the same playlist on a phone on the same network to tell your provider apart from your connection. Use Ethernet for 4K streams.

No sound on some channels. The stream is probably using an audio codec the set cannot decode. Switch the audio track in the player.

LG questions

Do I need developer mode on my LG TV?

No. Smart TV Player is published in the LG Content Store, so you install it normally. That also avoids the main drawback of developer mode, where LG expires the session after a few days and the app stops opening until you re-authorise it.

Which LG models work?

LG smart TVs running webOS 4.0 or newer, which is roughly 2018 onwards, across the OLED, QNED, NanoCell and UHD ranges. Older webOS 1.x to 3.x sets are not supported.

Is it a subscription?

No. $5.99 once licenses one television for life, with no renewal and no advertising.

Does it include any channels?

No. It is a player with no channels, films, series or playlists. You enter your own legally obtained M3U URL or Xtream Codes credentials.

Can I transfer the licence to another TV?

Yes. Remove the old device from your dashboard at smarttvsetup.app and pair the new one. The licence follows your account.

M3U or Xtream Codes on LG?

Both work. Xtream generally gives a better experience because it returns structured film and series catalogues and supplies guide data without a separate XMLTV URL.

Set up your LG TV

Open the LG Content Store, search for Smart TV Player, install it and scan the QR code. Then add the playlist you already have.
